About this typeface

Bruly is a Latin typeface based on the handwriting of the Ivorian artist Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, creator of the Bété script: the capitals in which he wrote French in his manuscripts, such as his notebook “Une méthodologie de la nouvelle écriture africaine « bété »”, with their monoline stroke, looped letters and dotted ornaments. Its name is a tribute to the artist.

Started in 2023 and redrawn in 2026, it is set in capitals and includes figures, French accented letters and punctuation — a companion to Bété Script, so that a text can carry Bruly Bouabré's hand in both scripts.
